Spruce King blank Chiefs to even up series

Jay Keranen picked a good time to score his first BCHL goal.

The 19-year old defenceman finished off a two-way scoring play in third period to help the Prince George Spruce Kings a 2-0 win on Saturday over the Chilliwack Chiefs at the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena.

“I missed one of those this year and I was making sure that one was going in, I was shaking and it was awesome.”

Prince George received a sterling performance from Evan DeBrouwer who collected his first shutout of the playoffs.

DeBrouwer admits he was less than satisfied with his play from the night prior.

“I went out during the morning skate and worked on some puck tracking but the biggest thing was I just tried to battle more tonight and fighting to see pucks more and I was able to do that, my defense made it really easy on me and they were awesome.”

Ben Brar nailed the empty-netter for the Spruce Kings to seal the victory.

A skirmish broke out after the goal as Brar and Will Calverley received unsportsmanlike penalties by the officials

Game three will be held Monday in Chilliwack and Game four on Tuesday. Game five will be played on Thursday at the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena in Prince George. Game time is 7 p.m.
