For the third consecutive year, the University of Northern British Columbia is ranked as one of the top employers in the province according to the BC’s Top Employers competition.

UNBC is recognized for many benefit and professional development programs including: offering tuition waivers for most employees, spouses and eligible dependents; topping up salaries for new parents taking a leave; and offering discounted rates for employees at the Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre at the Prince George campus.

“The dedicated faculty and staff at UNBC demonstrate a shared commitment to fostering a positive, productive and respectful workplace,” said UNBC President Dr. Daniel Weeks, in a press release. “Recognition such as this encourages us to continue this type work and helps us to recruit, retain and develop outstanding faculty and staff.”

The judges consider everything from the physical workplace, the employment atmosphere, financial, family and health benefits, vacation and time off, employee communications, performance management, training and development and community involvement. Employers are compared to other organizations in their field to determine which offers the most progressive and forward-thinking programs.

UNBC first made the list in 2012 and has been ranked among the top employers in B.C. in 2014, 2016 and 2017.
