Gina Degerness will be holding a candle light vigil at the Prince George Court House tonight (January 29) at 5:30 p.m. for her son, Lucas, who went missing in 2007.
The vigil was organized by the family, as today is Luke’s 25th birthday.
On the morning of June 7, 2007, 14-year-old Lucas James Degerness attended school at Prince George Secondary, where he and his mother attended a meeting with the vice-principal regarding his performance in class.
Following the meeting, Lucas was asked to return to class, but never did. This would be the last time his mother saw him. The following day, Lucas was reported missing to the Prince George RCMP after he also failed to return home.
The investigation has found that Lucas spent the night of June 7 with a friend, but there have been no confirmed sightings of Lucas since.
Numerous leads have been followed up, including many possible sightings in the Prince George area. In those cases, it has been determined that the sightings were of a similar looking person and not Lucas.
As a result of information received, the investigation led to the search of the Hudson Bay Slough in November of 2010. This search did not produce any evidence to further this investigation. In all investigations, the RCMP will follow-up on all credible information.
