Students, faculty, and community groups will join UNBC cafeteria workers in a protest calling for better wages for hospitality workers at the university.
The rally will be held at 1:30 p.m. in the atrium at McCaffray Hall at UNBC.
UNBC food service workers, members of UNITE HERE Local 40, the Prince George Public Interest Research Group Society (PG PIRG), the University of Northern British Columbia Faculty Association, the Stand Up for the North Committee, Women’s FIRE, and the Northern Women’s Center, students and others are expected to take part.
The protestors will urge UNBC President Daniel Weeks to take responsibility for the treatment of workers by The Compass Group, the university’s food service contractor.
Octavian Cadabeschi of UNITE HERE Local 40 says despite a wage increase offer from Compass, many long time workers are receiving less than $15/hour.
