Prince George welcomed its latest refugee family from Syria Friday.

The family was greeted by its private sponsors, Ameilia Bearhart, and Cariboo-Prince George MP Todd Doherty.

Dorothy Friesen posted the following on her Facebook page prior to the family’s arrival:

It has taken 2 years and 3 months since I saw the picture of Alain Kurdi’s father holding his lifeless body and said “what can I do?”. The generous and compassionate people of Prince George reached out and have made this journey possible for this young family. Tomorrow they start their new life in our City. We can’t save all the people in the world who are being forced from their homelands, but we can help, one person at a time.
Our application to privately sponsor this family was approved on July 8, 2016. It has seemed like a lifetime, for them and for us. Tomorrow we finally meet.
Huge thank yous to all the people who have assisted, donated, supported and helped in any way over the past 27 months.
