Operation Red Nose Prince George delivered 200 safe rides home over the course of two nights on its second weekend of service of 2017.
On Friday, Dec. 8, 80 volunteers, including 19 road teams provided 71 rides, travelling 2,146 km. Compared to previous years, the ride total is two more than the 69 rides provided by volunteers on the same night in 2016. In 2015, there were 97 rides delivered.
On Saturday, Dec. 9, 81 volunteers, including 17 road teams, delivered 129 rides, travelling 3,244 km. Compared to previous years, 131 safe rides home were provided on the same night in 2016. In both 2014 and 2015, a record 163 safe rides home were delivered.
Operation Red Nose has now delivered 360 safe rides home so far in 2017. The designated driving service, organized by the Rotary Club of Prince George Nechako in partnership with ICBC and the Prince George RCMP is available again this weekend, Dec. 15, 16 prior to taking a break for Christmas. The remaining three nights after that are Dec. 29, 30 and New Year’s Eve.
