The Prince George Spruce Kings will be without a pair of forwards for maybe the rest of the pre-Christmas schedule, as both Ethan de Jong and Kyle Johnson have made Team Canada West for the upcoming World Junior A Challenge in Truro, Nova Scotia.
Johnson, a returning player, was one of five ’98 born players elected to the team, while de Jong made his second trip to the camp count, making the team for the first time.
The two Spruce Kings will join 13 other BCHL players on the team, which is coached by Mike Reagan (Flin Flon, SJHL).
Spruce Kings Head Coach Adam Maglio states “We are extremely proud of Kyle and Ethan on making Team Canada West. They are both very dedicated athletes and well deserving of this recognition. We know both Ethan and Kyle will represent the Spruce Kings well at the World Junior A Challenge”
Team Canada West will play Russia on Friday December 8 in Amherst for a pre-tournament game, before opening the event on Sunday December 10th against the Czech Republic. Canada West also plays the United States on Tuesday, December 12th to close out the short round-robin.
Quarterfinal action goes December 13, with the semifinals slated for December 14, and the gold medal game goes Saturday December 16.
