Foothills Boulevard back to three lanes into the Hart

Good news for Foothills Blvd. commuters: Today traffic will revert back to three lanes (two uphill and one downhill) along Foothills Boulevard for vehicles heading in and out of the Hart area. With this transition, minor traffic disruptions may occur tomorrow. The city is close to completing a major water main project to enhance the water supply to the Hart.

PROJECT UPDATE

The water main project is near completion. The project includes a new 3.5km water main that provides redundancy for the existing water main. This new water main starts from a pump station (PW650) just north of the Foothills Blvd. and North Nechako intersection and proceeds to the Vellencher Reservoir (PW817) at the top of the hill. The tie-in to the pump station just north of Foothills Blvd. (PW650) will occur the week of November 20, where no traffic disruptions are anticipated.

WHAT’S LEFT TO DO

In spring 2018, the following tasks will be completed:
• With the completion of the project in spring 2018, the City will expand the existing bikeways along Foothills Blvd, widening the north-bound lane to 2m wide and the south-bound to 2.5m. Crews will paint the lines on the widened cyclist lanes on Foothills Boulevard in the spring.
• The replacement of a water pump station adjacent to the Vellencher Road Reservoir will be completed. The new pump station will improve fire flow throughout the Hart, meet modern-day standards, and allow for future development.
