Poisson OT hero as Spruce Kings edge Clippers

It seems like Ben Poisson has a flare for the dramatic.

The sophomore forward for the Prince George Spruce Kings potted his second double overtime winner this month as the Spruce Kings edged the Nanaimo Clippers 3-2 on Friday at the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena.

Nanaimo led for most of the game carrying leads of 1-0 and 2-1 over the course of the first two periods.

Jamie Collins tucked home his 11th of the season to draw first blood for the visitors in the opening frame.

Poisson tied things up later in the period on the power-play, converting on a three-way passing play from Ben Brar and Ethan de Jong to even the score after 20 minutes.

Lucas Vanroboys reclaimed the lead for the Clippers 3:07 seconds into the middle frame getting another past goaltender Evan DeBrouwer.

However, newly-acquired forward Blake Hayward tied the game again with his first as a Spruce King from Ryan Stack and Dustin Manz.

The Spruce Kings outshot the Clippers 28-26 overall.

DeBrouwer picked up the win in goal for Prince George against his old team.

The game also marked the return of former Spruce King Parker Colley and Cariboo Cougar graduates Tyler Maser and Jeremy Gervais.

The home stand continues on Saturday when the West Kelowna Warriors come to Prince George for a 7pm puck drop at the RMCA.
