Teen art workshop this weekend

The Prince George Public Library and the Community Arts Council of Prince George and District are presenting the  first annual Teen Art Workshop and Showcase.

This series of free events will provide a forum for young artists in grades 8-12 to have an opportunity to connect with local artists and exhibit their art to the public. At the Awards Reception in February, 2018, five youth will take home prizes of $200 cash.

WHEN: Saturday, November 25, 1-3 p.m.

WHERE: Bob Harkins Branch, Prince George Public Library at 888 Canada Games Way

WHAT: Teens are invited to meet local artists to seek advice and workshop their art in preparation for the Teen Art Showcase. Participating artists include Lynette La Fontaine, Michael Kast, Elmer Gunderson, Shirley Babcock, Carla Joseph, Cher French, Christina Watts, Heidi Veldman and more!

Teen Art Showcase

WHEN: February 1 to March 1, 2018

WHERE: Bob Harkins Branch, Prince George Public Library at 888 Canada Games Way

WHAT: Submissions will be on display to the public at the Bob Harkins Branch in the Keith Gordon Room of the Prince George Public Library. Artists are invited to provide sale information, if they wish to sell their piece (not mandatory). Submissions accepted: Thursday, January 4th to Thursday, January 25th, 2018 at Studio 2880 at 2880 15th Avenue.

 Awards Presentation & Reception

Saturday, February 24, 2018 from 1-3 p.m.

All showcase entrants and their guests are invited to the reception in the Keith Gordon Room at the Bob Harkins Branch. Appetizers and refreshments provided.

The Kiwanis Club of Prince George will present prizes in five categories including:

  • Most Original ($200)
  • Best Use of Materials ($200)
  • People’s Choice ($200)
  • Best Overall ($200)
  • Social Commentary ($200)

The events are open to all youth in Prince George and the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George, ages 12-18. One submission per artist. Art supplies are available through the Community Arts Council for any participating youth artist who does not have access to supplies.
