Cougars lose in OT to Rockets

The Prince George Cougars saw an early lead disappear Friday night as the Kelowna Rockets came from behind to notch an overtime win.

Nolan Foote opened the scoring for the early in the first period. However, markers by Jared Bethune and Dennis Cholowski had the Cougars up by one at the end of one. Kody McDonald gave the Cougars a two-goal lead early in the second.

However, Eric Gardiner scored a shorthanded tally to bring the Rockets within one again. That was short-lived though as Vladislav Mikhalchuk scored on the power play to restore the Cougars’ two-goal lead. The teams traded goals before the end of the second with Colum McGauley scoring for Kelowna and Jackson Leppard scoring for the Cougars to restore the two-goal lead.

Things fell apart in the third for the Cougars as the Gardiner, Dillon Dube, and Kole Lind each scored for the Rockets while Josh Maser was the only tally for the Cougars.

In OT, it was Lind who beat Tavin Grant in the Prince George net to secure the win.

The two teams go at it again tonight at CN Centre.
