Pedestrian seriously injured in hit and run

A woman is in hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle early this afternoon.

The incident happened at about 1:30 p.m. near the corner of First Avenue and Ospika Boulevard.

Police say initial reports were that a vehicle hit a pedestrian and its occupants fled the scene in the vehicle.

At the scene, police and other emergency services found a woman suffering from serious injuries.  The victim, who is approximately 18 years old, was transported to hospital for treatment.

With help from the public and other emergency responders, police were able to track the vehicle to a residence further west down First Avenue.  A woman and a man were arrested shortly after and are in custody.

A North District RCMP Collision Reconstructionist and the Prince George RCMP’s Forensic Identification Section have been called to the scenes to assist with the investigation.  First Avenue near Ospika Boulevard will remain closed for a portion of this evening while investigators gather evidence.

This investigation is in the early stages.  Further updates may be provided as the investigation develops.

Police would like to speak to anyone that may have witnessed a small light blue car in the moments before, during or after the collision.  If you have any information about this incident, please contact the Prince George RCMP at (250)561-3300.
