More evacuees heading home to Williams Lake

Earlier today, the evacuation orders for Nimpo Lake and Anahim Lake were downgraded to evacuation alerts by the Cariboo Regional District (CRD) meaning that residents can now return home and can no longer receive Emergency Social Services from the City’s Emergency Reception Centre located at the Prince George Conference and Civic Centre.

Yesterday, the CRD announced that residents are allowed to return to portions of the Central Cariboo area near Williams Lake. The areas that have been downgraded from an evacuation order to an evacuation alert include:

  • the Spokin Lake area;
  • the Soda Creek and Frizzi Road area;
  • areas North and South of Mountain House Road; and
  • the area south of Frizzi Road to Highway 20.

The CRD also recently downgraded the evacuation order for the area from Alexis Creek to Riske Creek to an evacuation alert. In addition, the City of Williams Lake has rescinded its evacuation alert due to diminished risk to life and property in the community.

Some areas in the Cariboo Regional District remain under evacuation order. Residents returning to areas no longer under evacuation order should visit the Cariboo Regional District’s website for important information: http://www.cariboord.bc.ca
