Recovered stolen vehicle leads to drug seizure

Slow-driving didn’t help two Burns Lake residents as that turned out to be the reason police pulled them over. And and that led to the recovery of a stolen vehicle and the seizure of drugs.

On Saturday August 7, members of the Fraser Lake RCMP were patrolling along Highway 16 near the Hoy Cross Forest Service Road when they observed a vehicle that was traveling well under the posted speed limit. As the police could not readily see an obvious reason why the vehicle was travelling so slow, the police stopped the vehicle.

Once the vehicle was stopped, police observed evidence to suspect that the driver was impaired by alcohol. As police conducted an investigation of impaired driving, information was received from the Burns Lake RCMP of a recent stolen vehicle from their area. The description that was provided matched that of the vehicle that was currently stopped by the Fraser Lake RCMP.

During a search of the vehicle police found property which they believe to be stolen as well as a substantial amount of drugs. Psilocybin, commonly referred to as magic mushrooms as well as marijuana were located inside the vehicle.

Two Burns Lake residents were arrested for the possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and breaching conditions of a recognizance. The driver also received a 90-day immediate roadside driving prohibition.

Both men were held in police custody and are scheduled to appear in Prince George Provincial Court on Tuesday August 9. The police continue their investigation.
