Light winds yesterday, helping firefighting efforts

There was some good news regarding the B.C. wildfires, says Forest Minister John Rustad.

John Rustad

“Winds were light allowing crews to make some progress,” he posted on his Facebook page. “Burn offs were successfully carried out on some of the fires giving us a chance to get some containment.

“With no rain in the forecast for the Cariboo we still have a volatile situation. Hopefully the winds will continue to cooperate.

“Crews from out of province continue to arrive providing some relief for our firefighters. Crews are working around the clock on many of the fires trying to make progress.

“There have been some people arrested for looting in some of the evacuated areas. Extra forces are being deployed and I know the RCMP are doing their best to keep these areas safe.

“Many people are volunteering and supplies keep pouring in. Thank you to everyone who is trying to help people get through this challenging time.”
