Additional RCMP officers have been deployed to a number of communities around BC including Williams Lake, Ashcroft/Cache Creek, and 100 Mile, to assist with BC Fire Services operations and to supplement core RCMP policing duties.
The RCMP is prepared to address all fire related scenarios including regular policing duties, assisting with safe evacuation, patrolling evacuated neighbourhoods, managing traffic congestion, road safety and emergency response.
Williams Lake
On Sunday July 9, Williams Lake RCMP observe a man, well known to police driving a vehicle police believed to be stolen. Police later locate the vehicle and make an arrest. The man has been remanded and will appear in Williams Lake Provincial Court on Wednesday July 12 2917.
On Monday July 10 Williams Lake RCMP received a report of a grass fire at the Stampede Grounds. Three people were seen running from the fire, but were never actually seen at or start the fire. People at the stampede grounds were able to extinguish the fire before the fire Department arrived. Through investigation and assistance from the general public all three were identified. Two of the individuals were arrested and held for court. As the suspects are young offenders, no names will be released.
100 Mile House
On Monday July 10 RCMP Tactical Team Members providing assistance to 100 Mile House RCMP located two youths in the area after the evacuation order had been issued. Police discovered the two youths to be in possession of break and enter tools. Both were arrested and released on strict conditions for a future court date.
On Monday July 10, 100 Mile House RCMP locate a man in the area after the evacuation order was issued. During the course of the investigation, the man was arrested for Break and Enter. The man was remanded in custody for a Provincial Court Appearance in Kamloops on Tuesday July 11..
On Monday July 10, 100 Mile House RCMP locate two people who are well known to 100 Mile RCMP. As a result of this, police seize weapons, bear spray and heroine. During this investigation, police recover an all-terrain vehicle (side x side) that is believed to be stolen. The investigation is ongoing.
On Monday July 10 100 Mile RCMP were advised that three unknown people attempted to break into a TELUS vehicle. TELUS employees interrupted the individuals and tried to locate them before notifying the authorities. All efforts made by police to locate these individuals were unsuccessful.
