Fire wreaks havoc throughout the Cariboo, evacuations at Cache Creek, 108 Mile, Lac la Hache

Several areas east of Williams Lake, near the airport have been ordered evacuated due a forest fire near Spokin Lake Road.

Areas near 100 Mile House, particularly 108 Mile, 105 Mile, and Lac la Hache have also been evacuated due to a fire west of 100 Mile House.

Highway 97 is closed south of Quesnel and north of 100 Mile House.

A fire that started near Ashcroft is also out of control and several buildings in nearby Cache Creek have been destroyed. Cache Creek Mayor John Ranta has declared a state of local emergency.

“If you are in the Village of Cache Creek, you must leave immediately and report to the Emergency Social Services (ESS) Reception Centre at McArthur Island Sports Lounge at 1665 Island Parkway, Kamloops, BC. It is also suggested that evacuees turn off power and gas to their residences,” states the Cache Creek evacuation order.

Here in Prince George a severe lightning storm rolled through the area around supper fire, starting a couple of spot fires … one near the Otway Ski Centre and at least one near Miworth … that apparently have been brought under control.
