United Way golf tournament raises $54,000

United Way of Northern BC Annual Charity Golf Tournament 2017 at the Lone Wolf Golf Course in Taylor raised more than $54,000 this year, with a participation of 144 golfers (another full house again this year). Golfers came as far from Calgary, Grand Prairie and Chetwynd to participate.

“Thank you to the golfers who came out and also to our great volunteers,”said Niki Hedges of United Way of Northern BC, in a press release. “The weather was perfect, we could not have asked for a better day. We were extremely lucky as it poured with rain the day before and a drenching in Taylor the following day.

“This event provides an opportunity to socialize and raise funds to ensure citizens have access to social and health-related services. It’s important that we are raising funds to funding local programs where the community most needs them. We support not just one agency, issue or focus, we are the umbrella to community to meet the identified needs of our citizens. This year we raised more than we have in sponsorships than ever before. We are very grateful to our feature event sponsor, Shell Canada who has supported the event for seven years, and thank you to our other sponsors who also continue to support this great event, because they know how much United Way of Northern BC does in the community. We support 38 programs in the community ranging from programs for children, supporting people with disabilities or are in crisis, supporting our increasing population of seniors and much more.”
