Alcohol may have been involved in fatal crash in Pine Pass

One person dead following a single vehicle crash in the Pine Pass Sunday.

Mackenzie RCMP, along with North District Traffic Services, responded to the crash on Highway 97 in the Pine Pass at about 8:30 p.m.

When emergency services personnel arrived on the scene, they found one person dead and another person trapped in the wreck.

The crash involved a Jeep, which was travelling north on the highway. The driver lost control of the vehicle and drove in to the ditch. The driver was thrown from the Jeep and suffered severe head trauma. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger was removed from the vehicle and transported to hospital for treatment for injuries that are described as non-life threatening.

The investigation is ongoing and police believe alcohol and distracted driving to be causal factors in this crash. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash are asked to call the Mackenzie RCMP at 250 997-3288.
