Search continues for source of a possible call for help near Nass River

On Thursday June 22, at approximately 1:49 p.m. citizens of Gingolx Village had been notified of a possible call for help from the Nass River near Haines Flats in the Kincolith area.

Highway flaggers working in the area heard what they believed to be a man repeatedly calling “hey hey” for approximately an hour between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. Using their VHF radio the highway flaggers relayed the information to the people of Gingolx Village. This was then provided to the RCMP.

Numerous people of the Laxgalts’ap and Gingolx villages brought their boats to the area to search for the source of the call. Along with the RCMP, West Coast Marine Section, and Search & Rescue, people spent several hours searching but have been unable to locate anyone in need of help. An aerial patrol has been conducted but did not locate any vessels or persons in distress. Further aerial patrols will be conducted and the search resumed on Friday.

Anyone with information that can assist the search efforts is asked to call the Lisims/Nass Valley RCMP at 250-633-2222.
