Pantage Lake fire 30 per cent contained

BC Wildfire Service crews are continuing their efforts to suppress a wildfire burning about five kilometres south of Pantage Lake and 40 kilometres northwest of Quesnel.

Winds yesterday caused the fire to grow and, as of 8:30 a.m. on June 6, the fire is estimated to cover 158 hectares. It is 30 per cent contained and does not pose an immediate threat to public safety or property at this time.

The fire was reported on June 4 and airtankers and crews responded that day. An investigation has determined that the fire was started by lightning.

Today, 60 firefighters and an incident management team are continuing work to establish control lines around the perimeter and are being supported by airtankers, four helicopters and heavy equipment.

Smoke from the Pantage Lake wildfire may be visible in nearby communities.
