The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George board is changing the name of its solid waste management programs to help in promotion and public education about waste reduction initiatives. The program will come under the banner of Smart Waste Evolution. The program will also feature sub-brands to promote specific initiatives like Sort Smart, to educate the public about waste diversion activities.
Heat transfer system tender for Robson Valley facilities awarded
The regional district has awarded a tender for an inter-connect heat transfer system for the Robson Valley Recreation Centre and the Robson Valley Community Centre. The system will allow for excess heat generated by ice-making in the arena to be captured and used to heat the buildings. The project expands on an energy retrofit project in 2013 conducted at the Robson Valley Recreation Centre. The tender was awarded to CIMCO Refrigeration for $116,404. The project cost is offset by a grant from the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure grant program.
2016 financial statements and service highlights presented
The Regional District released its 2016 audited financial statements which show actual revenues from 2016 at $41.4 million and expenses at $36.5 million.
Included with the statements are service highlights from the past year including the introduction of the Text to 9-1-1 for the Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Speech impaired community; the adoption of the Valemount Glacier Zoning Bylaw that institutes zoning and development regulations for the glacier destination resort near Valemount; and the assent vote (referendum) for the establishment of the Robson Valley Exploration and Leaning Services and purchase of a new building the library and museum in McBride.
