McBride mill fire continues to have hot spots

Last week’s fire that destroyed BKB Cedar Manufacturing near McBride Wednesday continues to flare up.

Crews will continue working on bringing down a nearby mulch pile and continue fire suppression works on the pile. Protection works have been applied to keep the fire from spreading to neighbouring properties and crews continue to monitor closely.

The fire is contained, but still active with investigations ongoing. The public is asked to avoid the area as this fire is still under investigation and the scene is not safe for public access. Only authorized people are allowed on scene for the safety of the fire fighters and the public, as well as the integrity of the investigation. The public’s cooperation in this matter is appreciated.

The mill employed 65 people.

The Regional District would like to extend thanks to the many volunteers who have been working this fire since Wednesday from the McBride District Volunteer Fire Department and the departments from throughout the region who have come to provide additional support and resources. We’d also like to acknowledge the support and hard work from the BC Wildfire crews.
