Spruce Kings season comes to an end

The Prince George Spruce Kings’ season is over.

The Kings blew a two-goal lead in the third period as the Wenatchee Wild scored three unanswered goals, two in the last minute, to take Game 6 of their seven-game series 4-3 and end the series.

Ben Poisson opened the scoring for the Spruce Kings early in the first period. Dakota Raabe evened the game at one about halfway through the first.

The second period belonged to the Spruce Kings as Kyle Johnson and Chong Hyn Lee both scored, giving the Spruce Kings the two-goal lead heading into the third.

That’s when the rails came off. Matthew Baker got the Wild within one at the 8:02 mark of the third. Then, with Wild netminder Anthony Yamnitsky on the bench, Chris Jones evened the score at three with one minute left in regulation time. Baker then got his second of the night with six seconds left in regulation time to put the Wild ahead for good.

The Wild won the series four games to two. They had won the first three games of the series, but the Kings had battled back with two wins before heading back south to end the series.
