A 14-year-old girl is in hospital after being hit by an SUV early this morning.
Police say the accident happened at about 1 a.m. Tuesday morning at the corner of Rainbow Drive and Liard Drive.
When police arrived, they discovered the girl who was seriously injured. The driver of the vehicle involved initially stopped, but fled the scene on foot prior to police arrival.
It appears that the small SUV was westbound on Rainbow Drive and struck the northbound pedestrian crossing Rainbow Drive. A North District RCMP collision reconstructionist was called in to assist with the investigation. The scene was closed for a number of hours.
Investigators attended a residence on Irwin Street where they located and arrested the 31-year-old man believed to be the driver of the vehicle. He does not have a valid driver's licence.
