Williams Lake RCMP have arrested three people after weapons and pipe-bombs were found in their vehicle.
On Wednesday the RCMP were responding to a call for service in the city. While the police were en route, officers observe a vehicle driving in the vicinity of the call. The occupants caught the attention of the members and initiated a traffic stop.
During this traffic stop, police observed weapons inside the vehicle. As a result all three occupants were arrested and the vehicle was searched leading to a substantial seizure. The offenders were found to be in possession of a handgun, long barrelled firearms, prohibited weapons and various disguises.
Further investigation determined the vehicle contained potentially explosive devices identified as pipe bombs. Williams Lake RCMP immediately engaged the Explosives Disposal Unit to ensure the safe disposal of the pipe bombs.
The investigation continues and the three individuals remain in police custody at this time and a substantial amount of charges are being recommended to Crown Counsel.
It will remain a priority for our detachment and officers to proactively target violent offenders within this community," Insp. Jeff Pelley said in a press release. "There is no doubt that this arrest and seizure prevented a violent act from happening therefore making the community safer.
