Two in custody suspected of counterfeiting

Police have two people in custody and continue to investigate a possible counterfeiting ring that may involve many other communities.

On December 13 at approximately 2 a.m., a police officer was alerted by a convenience store clerk on 20th Avenue in Prince George.  The clerk advised police that a woman had recently passed counterfeit American currency in the business and fled in a distinctive vehicle.

The vehicle, bearing Alberta licence plates, was located a short time later at a convenience store on 15th Avenue.  A 33-year-old man from Dawson Creek BC and a 32-year-old woman from Spruce Grove Alberta were located in the vehicle and taken into custody without incident.  Both suspects were in possession of counterfeit American currency.  Pre-paid credit cards that were purchased from the first convenience store and other counterfeiting evidence was located.

Investigators are sharing information with police in other communities to determine whether similar reports have been made.
