Bennett elected school board chair

Tim Bennett

Long time school board trustee is the new board chair.

Bennett was elected by acclamation to the position at the board’s meeting Tuesday night. Tony Cable, who chaired the board for the past two years, announced prior to the meeting that he was not going to run for the chair’s job this year.

Bennett was the board’s vice-chair, a position now taken over by Trish Bella, another long-time trustee.l

All three took to social media following the meeting to spread the news.

“It is a great team of passionate and dedicated trustees that are committed to supporting the almost 13,000 students and over 2,000 employees stretching over 52,000 square kilometres,” Bennett posted. “Thank you to Tony Cable for everything you have done over the past two years as chair. Having served as your vice for a year and a half I have seen first-hand the passion you have for the district and time he invested into the role.”

He also congratulated Bella for being elected vice-chair and Sharel Warrington, another former chair, for being elected as British Columbia School Trustees Association - BCSTA Provincial Councilor and BCPSEA Representative.

Bennett also posted that those who are interested can follow his “trustee journey” at www.facebook.com/trustetim

Cable, who will stay on as a trustee, said it was an “honour and privilege” to serve as board chair.
