The Prince George Aquatic Centre has been closed due to an unexpected electrical issue.
At this time, it is believed that a sprinkler head broke above an electrical panel and damaged the facility’s electrical system.
There were no injuries. All staff and guests have been evacuated from the building. Some City staff remain on-site to work with BC Hydro to cut the power to the structure.
Aquatics staff have been allowed to go home for the day.
It is believed that power will be unavailable in the facility, and the building closed, for a number of hours.
The Four Seasons Leisure Pool is also closed for its period of annual maintenance.
Crews and BC Hydro are not yet sure how much damage has been sustained by the building’s electrical system. The sprinkler head will have to be replaced.
Power has been restored to the Prince George Aquatic Centre.
The Aquatic Centre will be opened for regular operations tomorrow morning. The pools will remain closed tonight to allow time for staff to re-balance the chemicals of the pool water and allow the water to go through the filters.
The Four Seasons Leisure Pool is currently closed for its period of annual maintenance.
