City proclaims Canucks week in Prince George

Picture 7The City of Prince George is proclaiming the week of September 14 to 20, 2015 as “Canucks Week” to
mark the first time the team will hold its Training Camp in Prince George.
“On behalf of the Vancouver Canucks we look forward to an exciting Training Camp in Prince George,
B.C.,” says President, Hockey Operations Trevor Linden. “We chose Prince George for its first class
facilities, its strong commitment to the community, and its passionate, devoted fans. This is an
opportunity for our organization to show our gratitude and express thanks for the tremendous support  we receive in the largest community in Northern British Columbia. Training Camp is an important part of  the NHL season and we’re truly excited to begin our season in Prince George.”
The Canucks Training Camp will be held from Friday, September 18 to Sunday, September 20, 2015.
The event will include practices, scrimmages, and opportunities for Northern BC fans to get a look at
their team in action.
“The Vancouver Canucks are British Columbia’s pre-eminent sports franchise and many citizens of
Prince George are the biggest Canucks fans in the world,” proclaims Mayor Hall. “The Training Camp will  be an exciting part of Prince George’s centennial year, and continues much of the excitement we saw during the 2015 Canada Winter Games.”
The proclamation also identifies September 18, 2015 as “Wear your Canucks jersey to work or school
day” in Prince George.
“The City is encouraging all Canucks fans in Prince George to gather in front of City Hall on Friday
morning at 9:30 a.m. to welcome Canucks president Trevor Linden, mascot Fin, and the whole Canucks
organization to Prince George, and to kick off this great event for our city,” says Mayor Hall.
Friday’s event will include refreshments, short speeches, a large group photo involving Council, Canucks representatives, and fans in their Canucks gear, followed by the raising of the Canucks flag at City Hall.
The Prince George Cougars are supporting Canucks Week and the flag-raising by providing five pairs of  tickets to the team’s 2015/2016 season home opener as well as the exhibition game against Kamloops this weekend. See the City’s Facebook page for more details at www.facebook.com/cityofpg.
