An Olympic medal will likely make
its way to the Central Interior.
Kayla Moleschi of Williams Lake is
part of the Canadian Women's Rugby
Sevens team, which captured a
bronze medal Monday. She is the
only B.C.-born player on the rugby
squad. The team won the bronze
medal game against Britain 33-10 in
a hard fought battle.
“We are so proud of Kayla, and the
entire women’s sevens team,” said
Cariboo-Prince George MP Todd
Doherty. “Kayla, you have taken
your sport from Williams Lake and
all over the world to the Olympics,
and now you are coming home an
Olympic Medalist. Congratulations
on this momentous achievement, and
I look forward to watching you as
you continue your very promising
career in women’s rugby.”
This win marks a historic landmark
in Canadian sports, specifically in
women’s rugby. This is Canada’s first Olympic rugby medal in both women’s and men’s games.
“It is indeed a good day for the future of Canadian rugby,” said Doherty. “And a great day for all Canadians. I will be watching with bated breath as the games
continue in Rio, and I would like to wish the entire Canadian Olympic Team the best of luck. Go Canada Go!”
