Spruce Kings hand the Chilliwack Chiefs a 6-3 defeat

The Prince George Spruce Kings got some redemption Saturday. After losing in a shootout to the Chilliwack Chiefs Friday night, the Spruce Kings manhandled the Chiefs Saturday, posting a 6-3 win.

Sean Donaldson and Ben Brar scored in the first period and Dustin Manz early in the second to open up a 3-0 lead before the Chiefs could get on the board when Brody Gagno got one past Logan Neaton in the Spruce Kings net.

Ben Poisson put the Kings up 4-1 before the end of the second. Brett Willitz scored early in the third to pull the Chiefs within two. However, Manz notched his second of the night to give the Spruce Kings a 5-2 lead halfway through the third. Ethan Bowen brought the Chiefs within two again, but Nolan Welsh iced the game in the final minute with an empty net goal.

Neaton made 27 saves in the Spruce Kings net while Nolan Hildebrand made 24 saves for the Chiefs.

The Spruce Kings start a seven-game home-stand Wednesday night when the Merritt Centennials come to town.
