Junk in the Trunk sale goes Saturday

Looking for useful and unique pre-loved stuff? Come out and shop one of Prince George’s largest garage sales. Junk in the Trunk is happening this Saturday September 29 in the CN Centre Main Parking Lot from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The 125 vendor stalls have already sold out at this popular event which is an initiative of the Regional District of Fraser Fort George and REAPS to promote reuse and recycling, reducing the amount of unwanted material that ends up in the landfill.

“This is the perfect opportunity to find new treasures. Somebody else’s unwanted stuff may be exactly what you are looking for. As they say one person’s trash is another’s treasure,” said Rachael Ryder, Waste Diversion Program Leader at the Regional District.

A new component to the event this year is Do the Right Thing and $ave the Cha-Ching! Product stewards the Major Appliance Recycling Roundtable, the Canadian Battery Association and Tire Stewardship BC will be collecting fridges, freezers, automotive batteries and tires.

Clean and empty appliances can be dropped off for recycling in CN Centre’s gravel parking lot on Saturday September 28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for no charge, and lead acid batteries and passenger and light truck tires will also be collected.

“The idea behind this new roundup is to give people the opportunity to do the right thing and properly recycle these items at no cost to them,” said Ryder. “Used major appliances, lead acid batteries and tires require special recovery or recycling processes and should not end up in the regular landfill.”
