After a scoreless first period, the Express jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second period on goals from Christian Sanda and Regan Kimens.
The Spruce Kings answered back before period was out on goals from Dylan Anhorn and Corey Cunningham.
Knotted at two, the teams headed into the final frame. Ben Brar gave the Spruce Kings the lead 14 seconds into the third. Coquitlam tied it up when Cooper Cornell found the twine about three minutes later.
Patrick Cozzie netted the winner at the 16:14 mark and Brar added an empty-netter to seal the deal.
Clay Stevenson made 33 saves in the Coquitlam net while Logan Neaton was called on to make 21 saves for the win.
The Spruce Kings’ Liam Watson-Brawn, with two assists, was named the game’s first star.
The two teams are back in action tonight at Rolling Mix Concrete Arena. Game time is 7 p.m.
