Suspect arrested in connection with Houston armed robbery

Burns Lake RCMP have arrested a third suspect in connection with an August 6 armed robbery in Houston.

On Thursday, RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious-looking man near Paddy Isaac Road, west of the community. The caller believed it to be the suspect wanted in connection with the assault and robbery in Houston.

The RCMP conducted a search and had received several calls of possible sightings of the suspect, yet the suspect was not located.

On Saturday, an off duty RCMP officer was at Beaver Point Resort when he was approached by the suspect. The officer immediately recognized the suspect, however the suspect was unaware that he was speaking with a police officer.

The suspect observed a police car nearby and fled the scene in the vehicle he drove in with, which had been stolen earlier.

Fire road blocks that had been set up were advised and perimeters were set up with a spike belt available to be deployed. The suspect vehicle was seen driving at a high rate of speed toward the checkpoint and the spike belt was deployed, deflating two tires. The suspect fled the scene and the vehicle was later found abandoned. The suspect was located in the area and arrested.

The suspect, a 37-year-old man is presently in custody pending a court appearance. The investigation is ongoing.
