Fire burning near Valemount

The McKirdy Mountain fire is 35 hectares in size is and is burning two kilometres east of Valemount. Fifteen firefighters are currently working on the southern flank of the fire to ensure that the fire does not grow towards the village of Valemount. The fire is not exhibiting any growth. The majority of the fire is on the other side of the ridge and burning away from town. Crews are continuing to create guard and get hose lay to the northwest flank of the fire. Cooler temperatures and some precipitation have helped with suppression efforts. BC Wildfire Service photo   This fire is not currently threatening the Village of Valemount.
