Get your summer started on Recplace Drive.
That’s the message from the five sports and one restaurant that call the area home. The Prince George Golf Club, Prince George Tennis Club, OVERhang Climbing Gym, Roll-a-Dome, Prince George Curling Club and the FORE Bistro and Patio have banded together to launch Play PG – a new streamlined events calendar for the entire community.
“These facilities have been here for a long time,” said James Cronk, PG Golf and Curling Club general manager. “With the growth of the community, as it comes out this way, with the hotels and restaurants, the community is coming out to us.”
The extension of Recplace Drive through to Pine Centre Mall will also help expose people to the facilities along Recplace Drive.
“When we looked at our facilities, we realized we’re stronger together,” said Cronk, adding the facilities are a huge asset to the community, yet there are still many locals who don’t enjoy them. So when Cronk noticed there was no centralized events calendar for recreation in the city, he saw opportunity.
“We want to be the group that spearheads it,” he said. “So we’re starting with our partners on Recplace Drive, but we would like to put the call out to any club or organization that would like to post their event on our page.”
To be featured on the events calendar, send Play PG a message.
“Recreation is a highlight of living in and visiting this city; we want to make it easier to access information on the many amazing rec facilities and clubs in Prince George that are available to the public,” said Cronk.
To celebrate the launch, Play PG has put together a prize package worth $1000. To be entered, share a photo using the hashtag #playpg, showing how you’re playing in and around Prince George this summer. They want to see your favourite recreation spots and activities. You can also enter via playpg.ca. The winner will be drawn on Labour Day.
