Two Fort St. James men killed in crash

Two Fort St. James men are dead following a single vehicle crash near Vanderhoof.

RCMP were called out at about 2 a.m. Saturday to a report of a vehicle in a ditch at Bear Club Forest Service Road and Echo Lake Road. When officers arrived they found a sedan overturned with what appeared to be two people inside.

The driver, a 27-year-old man and the passenger, a 25-year-old man, were pronounced deceased upon police arrival. Members of the North District Traffic Service Unit attended to assist with the investigation, once it was determined the two occupants of the vehicle had died as a result of the collision.

At this time, investigators believe the vehicle hit a power pole, causing it to flip off the roadway. Speed and alcohol are believed to have been contributing factors to the collision.

The highway was closed while the investigation was undertaken and BC Hydro replaced the downed power pole. The highway did not fully reopen until approximately 2 p.m. on July 30.
